The driving idea of this project is that of two related volumes but each with its own identity. The first volume consists of wooden panels; cubic volumes generate voids to accommodate public reception and services. The second volume accommodates the tennis courts and has been designed to maximize day-lighting and to create interesting shadows at night. A wooden structure, composed according to a fractal system is covered on two sides by a translucent membrane which also wraps the roof. The third facade is of glass and opens onto the lake and nearby forest. The final façade of this volume creates the relationship with the first volume by connecting the two spaces by a vacuum, this in-between space allows access to players and offers visitors a space upstairs to watch the matches.
At an urban scale, the project contributes to the urban development of Växjö with its strategic position in relation to the existing environment and proposed timber buildings, the timber factory Sodra and corporate offices. A new promenade for both pedestrians and cyclists linking the urban centre and the wooded banks of the lake give the project increased dynamism. On the other hand, the building reinforces its presence and invites visitors to walk through this broad landscaped space between the car park and the sports center.
